Who needs Proj Run? We got Texas’ Top Designer
December 9th, 2008
With Project Runway’s future looking quite uncertain, we are all going to have to find a new way to discover our hot new fashion talent, and I sure don’t think it’s the be-masked Maxi on Blush nor the bowler-hatted William on Stylista. Thankfully we are about to start up our own Texas fashion competition again and the contestants promise to be 100x more talented and 100x less freaky than most reality TV contestants.
Last year Austin’s own Julia Plume was plucked from hundreds of applicants as Texas’ Next Top Designer. Now the non profit is on the hunt again for another designer worthy of the title. The competition only expanded its judging from North Texas to the rest of the state in 2007, and the winner receives a financial grant and exposure which can make the difference between designing as a hobby and designing as a career. Above, you can find a video of the organization’s chair Gianna Madrini talking about the event and showing some example looks. Designers can start sending in their applications now, through the end of January. Lets keep up Austin’s reputation and get another Austinite into that #1 spot!
